Recreation Division

The Parks and Recreation Division is responsible for providing a year round comprehensive recreation program for youth and adults. Activities for all ages and interests are scheduled throughout the year. Recreation program brochures are distributed quarterly in utility billings and at local schools. If you have an idea for a new program or special talent that you would like to teach please contact the recreation department at 360-432-5106.

Parks Division

Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee - Please contact Mark Ziegler, mark.ziegler@sheltonwa.gov, for more information.
On February 2, 2009 the Shelton City Commission approved the formation of a parks and recreation advisory committee. The committee consists of five members serving three year terms each. Committee members are:Bill Young, Kitty Lundeen-Ness, Kim Oliver, Josh Johnson and Jack Smith.

The committee meets every second Monday of the month at 5:30pm in the Shelton Civic Center.

The parks and recreation advisory committee shall have the following powers and duties:

  1. To make recommendations to the city commission concerning the future park, playground and other recreation resources of the city through the planning and development of a parks capital improvement plan;
  2. To recommend updates of the comprehensive park plan to comply with the Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office grant in aid programs;
  3. To make recommendations to the city commission regarding planning and development of public recreational facilities and programs;
  4. To cooperate with any departments and advisory bodies of the city and with public school authorities, Mason County, the State of Washington, other cities and public and private entities in the furtherance of a well rounded parks and recreation program;
  5. To make recommendations to the city commission on rules and regulations regarding use of city recreational facilities to best serve the interests of the public;
  6. To serve as liaison between citizens and the city commission on parks and recreation related matters;
  7. To make recommendations to the city commission regarding any matters affecting parks and recreation programs;
  8. If requested by the city commission or city administrator, to provide advice regarding the employment of parks and recreation personnel;
  9. To carry out other parks and recreation related subjects assigned by the city commission or by ordinance.

PARK RESERVATIONS
Ballfield and picnic shelters are available for rental at Callanan Park, Kneeland Park, and Loop Field. Please call the recreation office at 360-432-5106 to check availability and fees.

CIVIC CENTER

The Shelton Civic Center Community Use Space is available for rental by individuals and groups. The Civic Center has over 9,000 square feet of dedicated space for various functions available weekdays, evenings, and weekends. Private meeting rooms can house the smallest business meeting or the main room will host a formal wedding reception for over 300 participants.

FACILITIES

The Facilities Maintenance Division is responsible for maintaining all city owned structures inside and out. The division ensures facilities are safe and clean for the public and city staff. Long-term and preventative maintenance by the division also ensures a longer life facility. Facilities include the Shelton Civic Center, William G Reed Library, Mason County Historical Museum, City of Shelton Animal Shelter, Shelton Fire Department and Park Buildings.
ARTS

The Shelton Arts Commission was established in 1990 to encourage, conduct, sponsor or co-sponsor public programs to further the development and public awareness of, and interest in the fine and performing arts. The Arts Commission consists of five volunteer community members appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by a vote of the City Commission. The current members are; Amy Cooper, Elinor Lindquist, Coco Chang, Charlotte Bales, and Stan Yantis. Please contact Jordanne Krumpols, jordanne.krumpols@sheltonwa.gov for more information.
Civic Center Rotating Art Gallery
Professional and amateur artists working in two or three-dimensional media are invited to apply to the schedule of gallery exhibitions at the Shelton Arts Commission's Civic Center Rotating Art Gallery. The gallery is located in the Shelton Civic Center on the first floor. Exhibits are scheduled for 12 week periods.
